Joy of the Lord

Joy of the Lord

Cancer can make us bitter or better. I have found that the joy of the Lord is very important in my healing process. Philippians 4 says to “always be full of joy in the Lord, don’t worry about anything, instead, pray about everything, and fix your thoughts on what is true, lovely, and worthy of praise, and you will experience God’s peace.”
God gave me a promise from III John 2 through my Bible Study Fellowship leader, “I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.” Cancer has given me the time to study the Bible and the desire to develop a closer relationship with God. I am hoping for a physical healing, but I am enjoying the journey of spiritual healing along the way.

The Joy of the Lord protects our spirit…

Cancer can invade your body, but you must refuse to let it attack your spirit. As your body is more and more afflicted, you must trust in God in greater and greater measure. God’s love will make your spirit strong.

The Joy of the Lord helps us declare His Joy…

Find joy in each day,
praise His name,
and speak to others about His love and grace,
for “the joy of the Lord is MY strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).

The Joy of the Lord helps us avoid bitterness…

You have a choice when you’re going through trials – they can make you bitter or better. I’ve discovered the obvious -- better is better.

Count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing this,
that the testing of your faith develops patience,
and patience must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete,
not lacking anything.
(James 1:2-4).

The Joy of the Lord helps us with daily acceptance…

No chemo today – my platelets are too low, my white and red blood counts aren’t so great either. I got my CEA breast cancer marker today, and it’s up to 157. I guess this chemo isn’t working either. Maybe the cancer has become resistant to all chemotherapies at this point. I’ve had some pain in my left side. I’ll have a bone scan a week from Thursday to check it out. In the meantime I am feeling a peaceful acceptance of God’s will for my life, while wondering what other treatment options there are...

The Joy of the Lord helps us with daily awareness…

Cancer has made me aware that my days on earth are numbered. I don’t want to waste my days with meaningless activities. I want to choose to spend my time doing things that will help me to grow more Christ-like. God, I give you my time.

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race with joy and complete the task the Lord has given me.

(Acts 20:24)

What do you think?
We have all sinned and deserve God’s judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.

What is your response?

Yes, I want to follow Jesus

I am a follower of Jesus

I still have questions

How can I know God?

If you died, why should God let you into heaven?
